Life Lessons to Learn from Horse Riding

horse-riding school

Trotting down a trail, jumping over obstacles, enjoying the breeze, and galloping in an open farm – this is the vision that pops in our mind when we think of horse riding. However, there is more to horse riding than this. Horse riding offers benefits that are beyond pure enjoyment – it teaches valuable life lessons as well.

There are a handful of wisdom and lessons that you will learn from horse riding which can change you to your core and will become a part of who you are.

So, here are some of the important life lessons to learn from horseback riding:

It’s the Ride That Matters

Riding a horse is just like borrowing time.  At that moment, the only thing that matters is the rider and the horse, while the rest of the world seems to pause. Just like horses live in the moment, they carry the rider there with them.

Through all the smiles, falls, and injuries, horse riding helps learn a few things about life. The journey of life is a long one and most importantly, it’s the rider’s ride, and nobody else’s. It’s just the rider, and how they want to carry on with their life. How they embrace it is altogether up to them. So, as a rider, are you or your child going to inactively sit back, and give life a chance just to pass by, or are the two of you going to bolt at full speed to reach the finish line? The decision is yours.

Your Imperfections Are a Part of You

Horses have an incredible ability to see past our imperfections and give us another chance. They evoke our joy, celebrate our genuineness, and remind us of who we truly are. While riding a horse, there isn’t a commitment to perfection, only a commitment to evolving.

Similarly, in life, you don’t need to be a perfectionist – everyone is entitled to make mistakes.  Rather than seeing your ‘shortcomings’, you must use your strengths in order to lead. You don’t need to be “perfect” to succeed in what you do. You simply need to believe in what you are doing.

Patience Is the Key

There are no instant results in horse riding; it’s all about hard work and patience. So, if you constantly get baffled at every stage of learning, it will only decrease your progress and hold you back. Furthermore, getting frustrated can even make the horse uncertain of what you are asking for.

In our lives too, patience helps us to diligently work toward our goals and stay aligned with them. It helps us to have trust in ourselves and guides us along to the right people, places and opportunities, thereby, bringing us all of the happiness that we long for.

When You Fall Down Get Back Up

There will be many occasions where you will fall off your horse. Although, it can be a scary experience, yet you need to get up and try again. This way you can overcome what has happened and give yourself a chance to improve.

Failing and falling are both a part of life. When you figure out how to embrace it and are ready to hop back and move ahead, nothing can stop you from succeeding.

Goal Setting Is Important

In horse riding, riders need first to perfect their balance at the sitting trot, then canters, and then over poles. Once all of this is accomplished, it is time for the next big step – learning how to jump.

Thus, learning the fundamentals on goal setting teaches that if we want something, we need to work for it, step by step. Put simply, for anything that you want to achieve in life, you need to set goals first to reach the desired result.

Teach Your Child Horse Riding

Extensive research has proved that children who engage in horse riding show significant improvement in their cognitive ability. In simple terms, horse riding classes can help them improve their learning ability, get better at problem-solving, and sharpen their focus.

However, it takes a lot of learning to manoeuvre a horse successfully. Fortunately, a horse-riding school can help develop your child’s skills and get them started.

The good news is, at Genesis Global School we offer horse riding classes and our trainers love teaching children the basics of horseback riding. So, if you are looking for a school which suits both your academic requirements and your child’s penchant for riding, Genesis Global School can perfectly fit the puzzle. Just like other horse riding schools, we offer the best training to all our children which helps them grow physically, mentally and emotionally.

All in all, our horse riding training not only acts as a fun activity, but it also teaches your child many valuable life lessons.
